For the last 31 years, the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum has held it’s annual event, World War II Weekend. As the largest event of its kind in the country, the museum brings reenactors, vehicles, and warbirds together to create an unforgettable experience. While the airshow officially ends late in the afternoon, the last two years have brought something special as the sun sets across Reading Municipal Airport.

Thanks in part to Lerro Photography, not all warbirds sleep at night.

As the Saturday night dance beings, ground crews begin their own careful dance of bringing a select few warbirds outside their usual parking spots. All while eager photographers wait for the shots they have dreamt of all day.

Once in place, an airport fire truck carefully backs in to allow its crew to wet the ground around the aircraft. Lights are then expertly placed around the subject by Lerro Photography while the rest of the photographers find the right spot.

Safety crews move in as the pilots climb to their cockpits. Soon the field is filled with the roar of thousands of horsepower as shutters begin to click from all angles.

Then, after about an hour, the airport is quiet once again. The dance in the main hanger is wrapping up, the lights and equipment are packed away, and photographers begin the trek back to their cars. The second annual night photoshoot is now in the books.
